390 swap into 73 4x4

Hey all.
So I have a 73 4x4 halfton. Currently has a blown 300 motor with a 4 spd manual.
Friend found me a 2wd 1 ton truck with a great 390 and a 4 spd manual
Does anyone know if there is a way to make the 300 transmission fit into the bellhousing from the 390? I also have a FE 4x4 trans but not sure what kind of shape it's in.
Thanks in advance

It might bolt right up. Both transmissions should have the Ford "butterfly" rectangularish pattern. Input length, pilot size and input spline need to be verified as well.

The FE bell housing pattern is different than the six, but the transmissions that do not have integral bells all have the same pattern since 1965.

Snowking, Know this, your friends 1 ton could likely have a FE engine in it 352/360, that unless built and installed by owner IS NOT a 390.

All FEs become 390s on sale day.

Why not use the tranny from the donor truck?

That's a 2wd transmission, unless I can use that to bolt up to transfer case
I believe all 3 trans are np 435. My parts truck is a 73-75
Valve cover sticker says 390 but never know

Ah. I believe you'd have to change the tail shaft. I keep forgetting that other 4x4's didn't have a divorced transfer case like my highboy

So in that case, your 435NP should bolt up to the 390 bell, but I'm not sure about the input shaft. Best to compare.

Ya unfortunately mine is married.
And yes as long as I can make one good transmission that'll work for me is all I need. Only kicker is I know tran in the 390 is a great working one. One on my 4x4 I think is ok but not sure.

To change over the output shaft of the 435NP, you'll have to take it entirely apart. Stick with what you have

Unless you truck is lifted you'll need a 4x4 oil pan, pickup tube and dipstick, the engine will fit but with a non 4x4 pan the first time you bottom out the left front the diff housing will put a big dent in the pans sump.

Very good to know! Sounds like a good reason to get a lift to me haha
How high of a lift would I need?
I guess I do have a 360 in my parts 4x4 chasis too tho
