Anyone know if I can swap the tailgate off of a platinum for someones lariat, are they otherwise identical?

I haven't seen a lariat up close, but it appears the tailgate is different for where the Ford logo is vs the huge ugly 'platinum' letters on the platinum.

I want to get rid of that fugly platinum text, was originally going to see if I can pop that piece of (photos someone else posted looks simple to popup) and have something fabbed to replace it.. but perhaps someone else wants the platinum bling. Doesn't appear there's a piece to just pop off of a lariat (based on low res photos on fords website).

So, can the entire tailgate just be swapped, i assume there's no difference in a plat vs lariat tailgate other than the bling?

 

I'll switch with ya. I have a black Lariat. No tailgate step though. I really wanted one, but there was a mishap during the ordering process.

 

I do like my step.. was it optional on the lariat?

My truck is the tricoat white. Wasn't so much looking for someone to swap with at this step, was just curious if it's possible, or even if there's other ideas to cover that middle section.

The place that did my tint thought maybe pulling it off and dipping it might cover it up, but I don't think the matte look will be awesome with the rest of the truck. They said wrapping it would end up poorly with space under the wrap over the letters.

 

Well, apparently the Lariat Value package does not give you the step. I asked for the step, but didn't get it. Dealer didn't write anything down and I didn't make him sign anything. But that is the only mishap. But it's a big one, because it will cost me $4,700.00 from Ford parts. Disgusting.

My dealer said my truck had adaptive cruise. It did not. They said it did not have auto head lights it did. Dealer said the spare had a powered winch with key activation. Turns out it's just a keyed plug. Kind of getting the idea that dealers don't know anything.

 

Several of the 17 SD's this year at the SEMA convention either had the Platinum piece you are talking about either smoked or painted to match the color of the truck and it looked great both ways. I'll see if I have a pic of one and post it. Might be another option for you.

I think the color matched looks the best of the two. Looks clean and matches the painted bumpers, etc.

This is what I did ...not a fan of the tail gate from the factory....asked my dealer to swap upas well but they could not ...like the big blue logo on the lariat better

 

What are we looking at here exactly? Looks very sharp! Did you have the surface painted, and leave the etched portions chrome?

I'll trade you my lariat tailgate with step plus I'll pay for however much it cost you to paint it. Mine is Ruby red.

 

mine was wrapped with black and the letters cut out along with the top and bottom border

 

Can the platinum appliqué just be peeled off and a Ford emblem ordered?
