Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 UOA Ecoboost F150

Figured I would share if anyone was interested. The new Pure Plus Ultra Platinum seems like a damn good oil for our Ecobeasts! I have always used a Motorcraft oil filter and switched to a Motorcraft air filter for this run. I think I will stick with the Motorcraft filters going forward. I also run an RX Performace dual valve catch can which catches A LOT of gunk in the winter time.

With all due respect, that's only 3,450 miles. You could buy the $1.78 chinese stuff off the shelf at K-mart and have a great analysis at 3,450 miles. To me, this report means absolutely nothing.

Extend your interval out to 7,500+ miles so that the additive package is getting a little useage and then lets see what the analysis shows.

That is the plan! With this UOA I feel a lot more comfortable with a run like 6 or 7k going forward. But the point was that at 3,450 miles, it protected better than Mobil 1 at 1,833 miles. The only reason I ran such a short interval back then was to test for fuel dilution. Which apparently is not a problem with my dual catch can setup. But I understand your point!

SOPUS oil products and fords go together for some reason. My 4.6L engines have always had steller results. I was a huge mobil fan for years but had more bad UOA;s than I should have. That one looks really good. Why not try pennzoil yellow bottle for 5k miles and not worry about extended drains?

Glad I am not the only one disappointed with Mobil these days. For some reason I get nervous using a conventional in an engine with twin turbos, otherwise I would have no problem doing that. Also, since it's 4 degrees outside right now and snowing, a synthetic sure helps with the cold starts too. Those modulars were legendary for reliability if taken care of too!

Idling when cold, and other operational behavior, is often the cause of fuel dilution in a gas engine. Has your vehicle every had a fuel dilution problem?

I don't think the dual catch can setup would affect fuel dilution.

Actually you are incorrect, the dual catch can setup is a huge part of helping to remove the fuel vapors from the oil. Also the moisture too. I caught this after only 360 miles of driving in cold temps.

This is over a span of 6 days and probably 14 cold/hot cycles. Without this the vapors and moisture are not caught and it just keeps hitting the back of the intake valves and going back into the engine/oil through the PCV system. In my opinion, this is a necessity in the 3.5 Ecoboost if you want to get 300k miles out of this engine like I want to. Absolutely amazing engine, just need a dual catch can setup. The efficient catch can (RX Performance in my case) on the dirty side, and a cheap one will do on the clean side. My clean side catch can needs to be emptied every time I take a long trip with long periods of boost because the normal flow of the PCV system is reversed during boost.
