Subject pretty much says it all.
I just bought a 2001 F-250 SD 4x4 SuperCab SB with tow package. <23K miles on it. Will be towing a tag-along 2-horse straight-load with dressing room - probably around 7-8K fully loaded.
Most of the towing will be local (Phoenix area), with maybe a couple trips a year up the hill to Flagstaff, maybe a couple 8-hour trips a year to California.
Because I'm towing horses, I won't be towing in extreme heat.
I found some docs on the Ford site that seem to indicate I won't need an auxiliary transmission fluid cooler, but my "truck/trailer guru" friend is suggesting one.
Opinions?
Thanks.

Your truck comes with a seperate tranny cooler, in addition to the cooler in your radiator. You can find it located between the ac condensor and the radiator (look behind the rubber flap in the top of the radiator)

Look under your truck to see if there are fluid lines going to the radiator from the trany. You may see that they are going to a aux. cooler. My E-350 has a cooler mounted in front of the condenser and is used in series with the stock radiator cooling.
By all means if you are going to tow you should have the aux. cooler. The cost of a transmission rebuild vs cooler and gauge cost makes it practically a no brainer.
