to additive or not to additive

Hello,

I'm trying to decide if I should use fuel additives or not, in my new F250 6.7. Ford says that additives should not be necessary.

Others want to prevent gelling in the winter and boost cetane ratings.

I live in Indiana, where it can get cold, but usually not below zero.

suggestions would be appreciated.

its hard to say what the value is on the additives...most folks add them as a safety net.

zinc oil additives supposedly help with wear..but contaminate the cat converter

nano oil additives supposedly help with lube..but if they move into the exhaust process as part of oil burning...could clog exhust componets

newly introduced carbonate type of oil additives supposedly fill in micro pores..but also impact exhaust componets

fuel anti gel additives seem harmless on the surface...but I wonder what they do to HPFP seals

at the end of the day, for a vehicle in warranty..I would just stay with OEM recommended stuff and worst case...use the heavy use duty schedule for maint.

its all a crap shoot. I use some of the oil additives and broke a rocker arm anyway. maybe it got me 50 more miles...dont know.

I use a lubricating additive because my 2002 pre-dates low sulfur diesel fuel. IMO, checking fuel for emulsified water before every fill up is more important. I look at the fuel in a glass jar. If it's cloudy, I drive to the next gas station.

I use Stanadyne Blue(year round) or Red(summer) to help up the cetane rating and to try to remove the water from the fuel should there be any.

I have run PM-22 also but it does not say anything about demulsifing.

Warmer weather I use the Motorcraft..22 stuff, forget the whole name, for lube and cetane boost. Since cold weather set in I use Cenpeco Atomic anti gel and lube. After I use up my Motorcraft stuff in the spring,I will switch to Cenpeco summer stuff...The Atomic seems to work very well and 2 local shops sell and swear by Cenpeco in their own trucks. One is also a Amsoil distributor....If that says anything???

I would definitely use the PM-23 or Power Service white bottle. I'd use it all winter to prevent issues. FWIW, we used a combo of two-stroke oil, and Power Service for 300k on our last car hauler.
