Fuel pump

Quick question. 1975 highboy. 360 with 3 tanks. I only want to use the ne behind seat. under cab Is a fuel pump that kicks on with key. Has 3 in line filters and is pretty much a mess. Next summer Im going to take the auxiliary 2 tanks out on each side of the bed. Did my truck come with mechanical fuel pump? I don't see one on the engine. The fuel line goes straight to this noisy electric pump.

Thanks,
Brian

Yes it came with a mechanical pump. It may have been removed and a fuel pump block off plate installed in its place.

Thanks. Electric pumps just a personal preference, or you think
theyre more reliable than mechanical?

For a lot of people its a personal preference. In modern vehicles they're used because of the demand for much higher fuel pressure than these old trucks require because of EFI. Perhaps the previous owner was considering an EFI swap? Overall though, I think I'd vote that mechanical is actually more reliable.

Thanks......... I appreciate your response. Its a mess of e fuel lines, filters and a noisy pump when I turn the key on. Im just not going to mess with it until the spring. It works great for now. Thanks again. -Brian

I use a mechanical on mine because it is more reliable. Some people add electric pumps to eliminate vapor lock or to supplement for additional pressure as well.
