For those in the market for a tool box

I finally outgrew my Craftsman setup...that's being retired to woodworking tools.

I was shopping around, initially fixed on the Kobalt line...found that Costco had a set for $499...then they knocked the price down another $100 to $399...couldn't pass it up. Sale ends on the 2nd.

It's got a "crinkle" finish that should hide grease well...drawers have an actual moving latch to keep them shut (no "slam lock" BS to send tools all over the place when you shut the drawers.

Let's see if this GIF works. Warning - tool **** ahead!

I'd have preferred the top section be a little taller, but for the price I can't gripe too much. The door on the top section is removable/lockable. Only mod I think I'll do right now is to drill a hole in the top along the back to let me run a power strip inside. That should let me set my drill battery chargers up there easily.

They've been carrying these in area Costcos for a good year or three. Item number 803353.

No idea why it's not on the web site - maybe they are discontinuing them on line and selling off what they have in the stores?? I'd try calling your local stores and giving them that item number - maybe it's a "store only" item?

They do. That being said - I've personally found since I live close enough and drive a V10, I get my membership cost back plus some in gas savings.

...and some of Costco's have diesel depending on where you live...

My Dad bought a Lowes Kobalt box a couple years ago. One of their nice ones that stand about 6' tall. He HATES it. The drawers are very hard to open and close after the first 6 months. Not like the tracks are off, but like the bearings/slides are junk.

He bought the Harbor Freight combo that goes on sale for around $370 and thinks the quality is much better. After spending a week at his place over thanksgiving and wrenching on motorcycles I have to agree. The Kobalt is junk.

As for the Costco one, we purchased one at my last job to put out in the shop for the plant mechanics. I was VERY surprised at its overs all quality. It was still in excellent working condition when I left the company. The box had been in daily heavy use for about 6-8 months.

Hit your local CL and get the most expensive used Snap-On that you can afford.

I've got a KRL722 and can't imagine owning anything else.
