2016 - Shattered rear glass

Is anyone aware of an abnormal amount of rear glass breakage? This weekend I was loading firewood into the bed of my truck and one of the logs impacted the corner of the rear glass and shattered the window.

On my old F250 the same thing happened a hundred time. Toss a log in, it skips over another log and bounces off the window, no big deal. Not this time.

$808 for new glass, plus installation.

No doubt **** happens, but for a work truck I thought that it should have survived a gentle blow from a small piece of firewood.

Gentle is a subjective term. One man's gentle might be described by another man as not so gentle. I know things that I consider a love tap, my wife describes as something quite a bit more harsh. Sometimes you don't know your own strength.

Haven't heard of any issues. Could be different glass compounds. Or that window had some residual stress or defect from the factory.

But it's hard to compare two different situations. Different logs hit different windows at different angles with different levels of force.

Temperature might have played a role in the shattered glass as well.

Sorry to hear about the incident, but might want to think of a headache rack for future wood gatherings. Even a home built one that is used only when gathering firewood...might save you from this issue again.

That is why working trucks usually have headache racks.

Glass is odd like that. One time we were on the roof of a 10 story building and I dropped s 16oz glass bottle. Bounced several times but didn't break. When we went back down I stepped on it just for kicks and it shattered.

You'd really have to try it a few more times to see if you just got lucky and hit it right or if it's a regular problem.
