Chasses ? for people who have owned newer SD
The newest truck I have owned is a 1999 F 150 and I thought the redesign was great but I went and looked at some early 2000 Super cab SD that were high mileage and it seemed like the cab was all rattly and lose.
I am just curious do the newer cabs get all sloppy over time especially the Super and crew cab models ? I know the trucks are better in some ways just curious about cab quality over the OBS because my 99 redesigned single cab is real tight and some I have looked at were like all sloppy and rattle traps.
Thanks.....

tHATs WHAT I WANTED TO KNOW THANKs, it's not the crew cabs or the single cabs but the extended cabs. Yaa they did not seem right at all when they were high mileage. The crews to me are ugly but functional I guess....
What about the newer chasses are they the same way ? the reason I ask I am toying with doing a motor conversion because I see the new diesels with blown motors all the time even 6.4's. I don't like the newer diesel trucks motor wise for upkeep at all....

as someone that's cut into both, extensively, the thickness of the sheet metal is the same.
on the OBS and earlier trucks, the roofs are held together by welding them on at the drip rail.
the SD line has the entire roof spot welded into place.
the spot welds are under the door seal, so its less likely to rust.
I have also noticed that the OBS and earlier trucks use a lot of open celled foam for sound deadening in places that can collect moisture and start rusting.
fenders on the obs and earlier are made of multi layered sheets of metal which again can collect moisture.
super duty fenders are made from 1 stamped piece of metal and rely on the front support to hang the sheet metal.
the SD line is just years of advancement.

OK so there better. I had a guy who owns a local oil company and has all kinds of trucks tell me you get the newer chasses so pick your poison and when your start having problems with the drive train and motor you don't even bother messing with it and you have a 5.9 1994 - 98 Cummins on standby with an Allison tranny and take the time to do a conversion and just keep it forever and move it from truck to truck.
I don't know anything about this but he said there is no comparison and once you use this setup you will never go with any other setup and it ain't even close.....

I am really not a fan of the smaller Allison transmissions, or any Allison really with the exception of some vocational trucks. Slushboxes, with too loose of torque converters that let the engine just hold at one RPM while accelerating. You wouldn't know it had even shifted except for the little "bump" every once in a while.
