I did do a search but couldn't find this one.

My computer has been mostly accurate showing Distances to Empty. When Towing I do use it more than the fuel gauge to decide where to fill up.

Two nights ago I was down to 40 Miles to E and decided to fill up. When I restarted my rig, The computer showed 417 Miles to E. HUH . Usually it shows about 240 Miles to E.

I now have just over a half tank and the computer still shows 354 Miles to E. The actual fuel gauge seems to be working fine.

I have a 2006 F250 V10 with 77k miles and a 26 gallon tank. I have not been on the highway for any long distance for about a month now.

Any ideas? Thanks for anyone that can shed some light on this.

 

Okay in the Manual:

DTE is calculated using a running average fuel economy, which is based on your recent driving history of 500 miles (800 km). This value is not the same as the average fuel economy display. The running average fuel economy is reinitialized to a factory default value if the battery is disconnected

I had a new battery put in and then Filled up the next evening. Hummm. I'll have to fill up again when this tank is low and see what it does.

 

DTE is a constantly updating parameter depending on the traveling conditions. Around town it may drop and not go up. On the highway, it will usually go higher after trips around town. The DTE is only an approximation. Many have seen it read 0 miles and it maybe have 5 gallon left in the tank.

 

Since the battery was disconnected, give it some time and restarts, for the computer to do its thing.
