Stu,
Thanks for taking the time to show a cross section of the difference between the split rim R-5's, and the tubeless rim. The rims that Chuck has on his truck are Budd style right? With the rim and the center as one unit? That is the style I see on this old camper near me. So I assume the Budd style would need a different hub on the axle? More like the current car and truck styles? So that the rim /tire could bolt to it using the 8 bolts? Sorry for the basic questions.
Regards,
Chris

The Budd style wheel bolts the center disc to the hub with eight nuts (on Big Jobs). Your Daytons have hub and wheel together with the outer rims alone bolted to the spoked wheels. Harder to get centered and have serviced but no different in operation. The beauty of Daytons is their acceptance of either tube type or tubeless outer rims. Stu

Thanks Stu,
Not mine yet! But the wheel thing seemed to be a big issue with these old trucks and so I am still learning. And I really appreciate you taking the time to educate me and others about these! You are the expert!
I found you on at least one other site talking to guys about widowmakers too.
So if I remember the tubeless 22.5 rims to go on a Dayton style wheel is hard to find Is that right?
I would still like to see a cross section of both the Dayton vs the Budd axle assembly too.
Regards,
Chris

Dayton 22.5" rims are the standard today. Available everywhere. I'll see if I can find a couple cross section diagrams. But will be later tonight. Stu

Thanks Stu!
So that's good to know about the availability!
I did look at several videos of folks changing these rims on Dayton hubs. Starting to get the idea of how these work! Even the alignment issues.

Chris

This might add some perspective. If you've been looking at YouTube videos that's as good as you'll get. If you buy the truck ask your tire/rim salesman if you can watch the installation. Stu

Stu,
Awesome cross sections of the two types of wheel rim combos on the Dayton wheels.
Very good reference information for Big Job owners!

Thanks!

Chris

Folks,
Still out here, have looked a lot of potential projects. I like the red F600 "Abby" pick up thread. That is a nice looking truck. Not sure how a F800 would look? Similar I guess.
Having a lot of reading time on truck build threads too! Some great projects on here!

Regards,
Chris

Hey that's my truck glad you like it

The F800 will be bigger than my F600. Larger fenders. Bigger everything that makes it move. Larger frame. Different bumper, ect.
Things for the cab and the hood and grille, that's all that's shared with an F100 basically. That hood scoop should be worth some money.

Things like the fenders and hood emblems on the side will be very hard to find another pair. Everything cab related, look up Mid-fifty, they sell basically everything for a 53-56 truck, and I mean everything. Think the frame is the only thing they don't have.

Couple things to consider:

1) Sometimes it's cheaper to fly out and ship one back, there is one around me for $1500, but unsure of it's condition:
56 Ford Dumptruck
However this really only pays off when you know what to look for.

2)The more complete the better, ESPECIALLY a big truck because...

3) ...You're going to have trouble finding parts specific to it. My 272 Y-block has a different water pump than an F100 one. They don't reproduce it, rebuild kits don't work, I had to get creative in fixing it. If you expect every part of the driveline to have this issue you own't have any surprises.

4) You don't see many around. Couple reasons for that, one they are more rare. Two, they are harder to restore because of the part differences. This makes it cooler, and it makes it a harder build.

And with an insane amount of work...

Be an awesome build. Just be aware you'll have special problems that you wouldn't with an F100. But... that's what makes it awesome. (And there are people on here who can help with all of them)

Welcome

Personally I think it would be an awesome truck. Looks complete. A good color sanding might make it red again. The interior looks like the most amount of work. Looks like it was changed colors at one point with a hand brush, but again Mid-fifty would have all of that.

Some rust but doesn't look rusted through. Always hard to tell with photos. Could always just hit it with some transmission oil to protect it for a bit and deal with it later. Most of us have chassis that look like that, lol.

The decals on the doors are pretty neat too, hard seeing them, missed them at first.

Personally I think it's a great build if you wanted to keep it close to something factory. Looks like it would just need some sprucing up to be a daily driver. Course I say all that without knowing what that engine is like and all of that jazz, but Y-blocks where pretty stout engines from what I've heard.

Stephen,
For some reason I cant see myself and the wife going for ice cream in it! Now me and the great grandson, yea I could see that!
I have a serious problem with old stuff and restoration work. It has always fascinated me! Growing up on a farm and playing with tractors and trucks didn't hurt.
We have just started working on making maple syrup and that will keep me pretty busy till the end of March.
Funny I just had a guy call me about a mid 50's Allis-Chalmers tractor for sale.
Just because I own 4 of them, folks think you need another. Like I am a collector or something???
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
I have been looking around at pickups too. Seen one today and stoped and asked the owner. It is a 1956 Ford short bed, from Arizona. Nice rust free truck, not for sale. He Just picked up a crown Vic to do the IFS and rear end swap.
I also am in serious need of a shop and storage building for some of my toys! Its on the list of things to do too!
Forgot to ask, did you shorten the frame more to get it to match the pickup bed on Abby?
Regards,
Chris

Folks,
Anyone know what one of these F800 trucks with no box would weigh? My guess would be 6500 lb??
Regards,
Chris
