Just an update on my hunt. My 1937 pickup has been purchased and is in transite to Evansville IN. It is due to be delivered on Tuesday (2/28/17). I may take the day off as I have to pick it up at an Atlas Van Lines location here in town. I'll have to have a police officer come out to inspect the truck since it was purchased out of state and fill out some paper work which cost $5. Then I'll need to take that paper work along with the title and the 1937 truck plates I'm going to use to the BMV. The plates have to be approved by the BMV before I can display them on the truck. Plus....I'll have to purchase standard truck plates to keep in the glove box that will have to be renewed yearly. Now I get to enjoy the truck.

Sounds good! License plates are just what you wanted for your glove box; I hope they fit. When you are driving take a pic through the windshield and post it here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...indshield.html

Finally picked up my 1937 Ford pickup today. It was pouring down rain with thunder but the weather broke long enough for me to drive the truck about 10 miles home. Right away I had a cop come out and do the VIN check for me so I can get the title transferred. Waiting to meet my wife for lunch so she can sign the title then off to the licence branch. In the mean time I'm setting hear drinking a cold Modelo looking at my pride and joy

Congrats on your delivery. My first order of business would be to remove the Hot Wheels stickers from the window. They look as though they are in the line of sight with the mirrors.

Yup.....all sticker have to go. I have a question. Got a chance to check a few things out on the truck and I noticed the screws on the door handles are stripped and falling out. The kinda look like wood screws. What are these screws going into inside the door???

I think that there are captive nuts on the inside of the door sheet metal that the fasteners screw into. The handle should be fastened with machine screws into the captive nuts. The captive nut must be stripped.

Your truck looks kind of beefy sitting in the garage.

Thanks for the help. Looks like I need to pop the door panel off this weekend and see just what is going on.

Sweet!!! I looked at a 40 door and it has captive nuts inside for machine screws. The door handle should slide out after you remove the screws. But if it has a worn place on the square shaft, it can have a burr and be balky to slide out.

Thanks for the info. When I pull the door panel off will I be able to see the nuts that the door handle screws screw into?

So....if someone has stripped out the nuts that the screws go into to tighten the door handle from the outside, what are my options at this point???

It's kinda cheating but I've found you can often go metric and get a screw that's just a little bigger, tap for it. Probably be a 5-6mm. Now personally, I don't like to put metric stuff on my old cars, gripes me that new wheel cylinders use a 10mm wrench on the bleeder instead of 3/8 so I change the bleeders. If it's just a phillps, not as big of deal.

Guys,

Both are good idea's but how do you get to the studs to see just what is wrong? Looks like the only way to see is down beside the glass and you can't tell much from there.
