You could always add ZDDP as an additive as I do in my 69 mustang.

So how does one stock up on CJ-4 oil in the manufacturers are stuffing CK-4 oil in the bottles labeled CJ-4?

What is the giveaway? I just got a new jug of T-6 and I'll check.

Look for your favorite diesel engine oil in the old style containers to ensure it's CJ4 only compliant.

I recently switched to Motorcraft oil at least until the dust settles and I suspect it will stay CJ4 only compliant until Ford gives Conoco Philips the green light to go to a CK4 compliant oil.

Here's a new video from Ford specifying not to use the CK4 oil unless it has there new specification.

Great video, thanks Troy.

I'm actually considering doing the first oil change myself so the dealer doesn't somehow screw this up. Between the new oil standard and the book saying 15 qts when it really takes 13...hmm.

Here is a summary of the new oil standard from AMSOil's perspective and how it relates to the current year and prior diesel engines and then newer engines that actually call for the new oil.

I stopped at a local Ford dealer (1 1/2 hrs. away) to ask about the newer oils. I thought getting it from the horses mouth would be best and they would be on top of anything new.

I for the most part got the deer in the headlights look. One parts guy said he got the memo from Ford only in the last few days. They pretty much new nothing.

I stopped at a place in the town where I live. They had the Chevron Delo 5/40 in the CJ format. It is the same jug as the last ones that I bought. The Chevron 15/40 was the CK with the Ck printed right on the cap.

I found that primrose oil company is still manufacturing CJ4 oils for diesels. Used it in my '03 250.

So to answer the Motorcraft oil question...................Just picked up 3 gallons of 5w40 synthetic today. No API logo to be found. Just a big tag line that it meets Ford spec WSS-M2C171-F1.

Bottle shots

From what I'm seeing it appears Ford's issue must lie in the phosphorus reduction in CK4. CK4 max is 800 ppm. This stuff chains over 1000 ppm. Cj4 limit was 1200 ppm.

Funny how they don't list it on their website of approved oils. Makes me wonder how many other brands have been approved but still not listed?
