1995 f150 302 Grey Vs Black ICM?
95 f150 302:
My CEL is off, but I still have code 212 in continues memory. I currently have a Grey ICM on the truck, but from what I have read the correct ICM is black and the only way to get the correct one is to get an ICM for a mustang, is this true? Also, the truck has had the grey ICM in it for years and it runs good. Is there any negative effects of having the incorrect one?
If anyone thinks the 212 code is due to a different issue or need any other information please let me know.
Thanks Travis,

The 1994 and later trucks use Computer Controlled Dwell (CCD) igntion. Which means the computer controls the ignition "on" time. Prior to 1994 these trucks used a Push-Start style ignition with a more or less fixed "on" time. Swapping the different ICMs between igntion styles can result in poor performance, reduced power and/or other drivability issues.
Highly suggest to install the correct Motorcraft/Ford ICM for your truck.
Motorcraft - DY1077 (supercedes DY679, DY667, DY645)
Ford - 5U2Z-12A297-D (supercedes F1PZ-12A297-A)

Thanks timbersteel and rla2005 for the responses! rla2005, that is interesting that it effects performance and drive ability, it drives pretty good right now, I would have never known anything was wrong unless I pulled the codes. I will definitely will look into getting the correct black ICM for the truck! Would you guys suggest buying new? I've seen a couple parts numbers on a different thread, or do you think one from a junkyard will do the job?

A junkyard find for a real Ford or Motorcraft version beats an aftermarket version IMHO.
