diff/axle identification

Hi Guys and Girls,
I've been offered an old 9inch? rear end spring/sway bars, brakes and wheels etc, supposedly from a 1965 Galaxie. I haven't seen it yet but I'm told there are the numbers D2WA-A on the housing, and A#2 on a small plate.
Question, can anyone tell me what it really is from, possible ratio etc and whether or not it will fit a 51 f1?
As usual, Thanks in advance....appreciate your help.
Geoff.

D2WA is a 1972 casting number. Rear axle ID tag located at approx. 5 o'clock under one of the bolts that retains the carrier (pumpkin) to the housing. Today, many of these tags are missing.

Here's a pic of a 1972 LTD & 1970/71 Thunderbird showing the rear coil springs, track bar (5A639), upper arm (5500) and R & L lower (5A649) arms.

The 'usual' 9" people install in their trucks will be found in 1957/72 F100's.

NumberDummy,
Thanks for your reply. I realise there would be a fair bit of work to use this rear end in my truck, but if it could be made to work it will be a lot cheaper than buying a rusted out f100. In this neck of the woods they're asking up to $1500 for rust buckets! No way I can afford that.
I see that people have used 67-73 Ranchero, and Fairlane rear ends, can you tell me what the difference is between this one and them? Would the width be about the same?
As usual, thanks for your replies, appreciate it.
Geoff.

1972 and 1974/79 Ranchero would be the same as 1966/73, also same as 1968/76 Torino, 1977/79 LTD II (not an LTD!).

But some of these cars also came with the 8" (looks the same as a 9") and the WER 8.7" integral rear axles.

Personally, I would suggest the 1957/72 F100 9" as it fits. I don't know if the others will and all the others have specific R & L axle shafts, while the F100's are the same R & L

F100: 1957/67 have 11" x 1 3/4" rear brakes, 1968/72 have 11 x 2 1/4" rear brakes.
