What's the meatest and tallest tire I could fix on a 16.5 rim?

I currently have the Firestone 9.50x16.5 tires on my 16.5 rims (which I'd like to keep...), the tire is ok but it looks too skinny to me on my F250 4x4 model year 79', I'd like to fix a taller tire instead.

What are your advices?

Thanks and good weekend to everybody...

How about some military wranglers? 37x12.5x16.5. I had them on a idi f350 and loved them. I bought mine from a military wheel and tire surplus dealer for $100 each.

I'm sure there are larger, wider still, but I have the Goodyear Humvee take off's on Ka'Bluey, with 6"s of lift. These are 37x12.5x16.5 and easy to find, and not bad on the wallet either.
You can usually get into a full set for about $1000 depending on the tread life that is left.

So if the truck is stock suspension you should be able to get some 33x12.50x16.5's and they would be wider than those 9.50's. My silver truck has a front add-a leaf and 33's. Red truck 6" and 36's mil takeoffs.

FYI 16.5's are NOT commonly stocked and are pretty much being fazed out. BFG has quite making them all together.

Jeep & Truck Tires - 16.5 - 4 Wheel Parts

There at 3 kinds of military takeoffs 36x12.50x16.5 old bias play Goodyear Wrangler MT II, the newer radial 37x12.50x16.5 and the even newer
37x12.50x16.5 Baja TA.

To bad this guy will not ship to Spain... 100Dollarman - Tires!

The military take offs are the CHEAPEST 37" tire on the market.

Thanks, so you think I'd all right with something like this?

Super Swamper Tires - 33x12.50R16.5LT, TrXus MT Radial | 4WheelParts.com

The Firestons 9.50/16.50 I've now look small compared with the rims I've them fix on, I guess the above tires would be ok...

I would say yes, I have 33x12.50x16.5's on my 77 F250. Even without the add-a leaf they fit on the front, but were a little to close or comfort when I went mild off roading.

Whatever you decide on, be sure that the wheel's width satisfies the tire manufacturer's specs.

Original stock steel wheels are probably 6.5" wide. All the pics with military tires show non stock wheels... probably at least 8" wide as a guess.

Agree check width of the wheels you have and specs for the tires. Neither tires nor truck nor driver will be happy if they are mis-matched.

A lot of folks are selling their wider 16.5" wheels so you might find a set at low cost or free if you can find tires to match.

The Goodyear wrangler 37x12.50 does work best on factory 7" wide wheels. They will work on 9.75" wide rims but can be very tough to get seated up on the bead. For a 12.50 they seem rather narrow. I can't say for sure but I think I got mine from that 100dollarman guy and his recommendation was to use factory wheels. I do remember I bought 5 tires shipped $580 to my work about 6 years ago.

37'' is the tire diameter isn't it?

My wheels are aftermarket, I guess they are pretty much wider then 6.5'', the Fireston I have (9.50x16.50, which are 30'' diameter) seat loose on this wheels but I don't know exactly their measures, there is no indication on them...

Yes it is. The Goodyear tires I have seem to wear like steel. They are a little stiff on ride quality with very little noise. The price/size makes them worth it, there's better tires made but they cost much more.

I put 16.5 tire on a 8.75 and 9.75 wide rim with no problem. And they do not like be be aired down on a none bead lock rim either. They also weigh about 80 lbs EACH without the rim.

Yes that truck is running the 2nd gen 37" tire.

MY
1st pic 36x12.50x16.5 Bias ply 1st gen
2nd pic 37x12.50x16.5 Radial 2nd gen
3,4,5,pic 37x12.50x16.5 Radial 3rd gen and the best one out there IMO.

Getting some 16" rims with the proper backset/off set to ensure they clear your calipers would give you a ton of tire options. In Spain I am pretty sure, but maybe not?

Is mail order your only option for this kinda stuff over there?
