Truck shook , died. Too much oil in pan. HPOP?
Posting for a friend. 2010 with 113,000 miles. He bought it used. 2 days until warranty expires the engine shook badly some slack smoke. Then ran ok for a day. Next day barely start. Had to be towed. At dealer for 2 weeks. Diagnosed fuel in oil. I say injector(s). Mechanic just reported back HPOP. Still doesn't explain fuel in oil. I'm a 7.3 & 6.7 guy don't know much inside info on the 6.4.
Any insight or words of wisdom.
Thanks
Keith

Internal leak in the High Pressure Fuel Pump can fill the crankcase with fuel. So can a leaking fuel line under the valve covers. The 6.4 does not have a HPOP. Whenever a 6.4 or 6.7 starts to smoke abnormally, pull over and shut it off. You can ruin the engine very quickly depending on what's causing the smoke.

so causes of fuel in oil
have been associated with long term fuel contamination during the DPF regen. folks are running long oil change intervals and not checking oil level.
leaking fuel lines under vlave covers is possible...but rare...unless a related repair was made and the 1 time use lines not replaced.
an open injector could pump excessive fuel into cylnder, and what ever doesnt get burned, could leak past rings and wind up in the crank case
I can't see how a HPOP will cuase fuel in the oil.
Nor can I see how a HPFP would cuase fuel in the oil.
These 6.4's are very problematic and there are a lot of them on the lots bought at auction from ford dealers who recieved them as trade in's (after the warranty expired) and do not want to sell them on their lots.
I hope you have deep pockets.

I sold my 2008 F250 a few months ago with 80K on it. The entire time I owned it, the only thing I ever had to repair was cruise control and the steering stabilizer. Oil changes every 5-6K and it ran like a champ (lots of highway driving).
I sold it to the guy who farms our land who is using it as his foreman's truck. Two months after I sold it, smoke, all the lights came on, and it went into limp mode. Crankcase was WAY full of fuel and oil. The dealer diagnosed it as the HPFP.
Kinda wish I had traded it to the dealer when I downsized to my current F-150, because selling to a friend, I felt bad and paid for half the repairs. $4000 for the HPFP replacement, plus they replaced the fuel injectors since they had the cab off, so total repairs of $6000.
