So we all have seen those gas company credit cards that give you 10c off/gal... Are these worth it? Are there any other options? Considering that each time I fill my truck up, it costs me $86, is there an alternative I should know about? I'm considering paying off my Capital One card, canceling it and applying for the gas card.

We have a BP card that we use when we go camping as the local station is a BP. Whenever I use the card the pump asks "Do you want to use the XX amount on this purchase?" I always hit the yes button but didn't realize it was per gallon. Storing the wife's Cruiser for the winter I drove to a local BP to fill up with ultimate (No alcohol) and it asked if I wanted to take .52 off. I got ultimate for 2.39 a gallon. Wish those BP's weren't so scarce around here.

I let my rewards build up by saying "no" and when It's within $0.50 of the price of a gallon, I take my gas cans and funnel and top of a couple if needed in the driveway, carry just enough cans that when I take the truck ..... I can get the whole 20 gallons. That way I keep my mower / generator gas fresh too.
If you take the $0.52 discount and only pump 9.7 gallons, you save $5.044 on that and reset the rewards to zero.
I have let mine build and with gas price dropping fast, got too close to the price and the pump will not let you pay less than $0.109 per gallon. It happened once. Other times I was very very close and got 20 gallons for a little over $2.00.
Usually I'm dealing with a $1.50 per gallon discount .... as I stopped letting rewards build so close.
I liked the old program much better .... it was a straight 5% credit back on every gallon. When gas was $3.00 gallon, that was $0.15 in rewards for every gallon. When I got into BP gas credit card, it was immediately before a 21 day trip out west that saw gas prices up around $4 per gallon .... and the intro was $10 for 60 days .... I really liked that. I redeemed mine in $50 gas cards. Sad to say, out west I found BP scarcer, but I did find some Amacos .....
With lower prices, the rewards build slower, but then I am paying less .... and I find the BP gives consistant performance. Here in this part of Va., BP is almost always as low as any other and usually less than most.
Always pay the CC bill 100% ..... no interest.

I use the Cumberland farms app. Not sure how widespread around the US they are. But 10C off a gallon is a good deal to me. I don't use it all the time but I have saved $70.17 since I have used the app.
That and you get free stuff like drinks and snacks. Looking on my app it seems to be only a New England and Florida thing.

Using your credit card for monthly consumables(consumables are anything that show up repeatedly. Food, gas utilities, etc.) is only good if you pay off that debt each month, otherwise your balance will skyrocket very quickly, leaving you in CC debt. If your goal is to keep your CC debt down, practice your self control in either direction you go, either by not charging or by making sure the payment in full is made.

Around here, for every $100 you spend at Kroger's you get $0.10 off - the points expire after 2 months but I fill up more often than that. They allow up to $1 a gallon off. You get 50 points for each prescription you fill, and if you fill out one of those "how are we doing" surveys from the receipts, another 50 points per receipt. Without going out of our way at all, for 8 months last year we never paid more than $1.00 a gallon. There's a 35 gallon limit, but I rarely use that much in a fill-up.

I think I have the best formula to save on fuel, for me anyway, no credit cards, it's basically all cash and rather convenient.
I buy fuel in two ways, but all in a way from Kroger/Fred Meyer. First I buy fuel gift cards at Kroger/Fred Meyer this often gets me 4X points towards their fuel discount. I use these cards for small top offs and the smaller vehicles. Then when I have 1000 points saved which gets me the max discount of $1 off per gallon up to 35 gallons I buy a full 35 gallons of diesel at that discount at Kroger/Fred Meyer. Even if I can't fit 35 gallons the fuel tanks, I toss a can/barrel in the bed for anything the tanks won't take in order to buy the full 35 at the discount.
It helps that here the cheapest fuel in general is at Arco, and I can get Arco cards. Also Fred Meyer is my go to store for most other things so that 1000 points adds up fast.

In Montana, we don't have that many options, haha.
I decided on a Amex BlueCash everyday card. 3% cash back on groceries up to $6000 spent, 2% back on Gas and certain department stores(unlimited) and 1% back on everything else. I'm surprised I was approved for it, but it will pretty much be replacing my debit card.
