Straight up timing gears or chain?

Well, what we thought was just the water pump was actually also the timing cover gasket leaking, which means the cover is coming off... At that point, he'll be checking the timing chain.

Opinions on gears vs chain?

It's leaking behind the water pump on the top side.

I believe there is a gear conversion for your 460, but they're noisy, and really kind of a "race" thing

Go with a nice double-roller timing set. They're fairly cheap at summit. Straight-up timing

The stock-style chain will stretch

The noisy part doesn't bother me, but they're pricy. Is there a double roller timing set that a parts store locally would carry?

my local stores would have to order in a timing set-stock or performance. I'd guess yours the same

PBY is correct. Go with a good true-roller chain & gears. I used an Edelbrock # 7830.Install it straight up. As far as the timing cover, mine leaked between the cover and the block. They become oxidized & pitted. Replace the cover. I used a Enginequest TC460N. If the dipstick tube is in the cover, replace it also.
