1994 6 cylinder, Fuel pump of choice?
Friend is having problems with front tank. Looks like it is the pump.
Couldn't find any mention of brand when searching the forum.
What do you recommend??
Should we just get the complete kit and install in both tanks since we are pulling the bed??
Thanks

I would recommend the spectra FDM (pump and sending unit). I had to replace the pump and mid-ship tank in my '96 F150 last year. I was deadset on getting a genuine Motorcraft FDM - until I saw the price. Now, depending on the job, I still lean toward Motorcraft parts. If it's a major job that I don't want to have to do again, I'll spend the extra money. However, replacing the tank/FDM was so simple that if the spectra brand only lasts a few years, it's still OK because it's so easy to replace - even with the bed in place. It took me about 30-45 minutes tops.
I have heard that the rear tank is much harder to remove and replace, so maybe it might be worth spending the extra money on Motorcraft for that one. Here's the kit I got for the mid ship tank (it was just over $200):

I've always had MUCH better luck with Delphi, Bosch, and NGK pumps than anything else. I put a Delphi in my 95 and it's been fine for the last year, and I'd be shocked to ever have another problem out of it.
I've seen so many spectra pumps fail, and have helped freinds replace 2/3/4 of the same pump because "it's lifetime warranty" (most of my "friends" are GM people) .. But I fail to see how replacing the same pump over and over and over is cheaper than buying a good pump to begin with. I've never had a replacement Delphi pump return for warranty. I don't know why the replacements seem to be better than GM's oe Delphi parts.

I dealt with deciding on fuel pump brands when i did my rear pump. I would avoid airtex (supplies most parts store house brands). I went with a delphi and it wasn't much more expensive. I haven't put many miles on it so I can't comment on longevity but they seemed to have overall positive reviews when I was looking.
