Adding fog lights to 2009 Ranger.

Hi,

Changed the oil on my dad's 2009 Ford Ranger (XL-4.0-4wd-auto) and noticed that the fog light bumper plugs were easily removable and the wires were tucked up behind them.

So I went and bought aftermarket fog lights, a motorcraft round dash switch with fog option and the relay for under the hood. They still do not turn on, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Nice Son you are, you get an Attaboy. I really like my factory fogs, they Really light up the side of the road & fill in really well close up in front, so make me feel Way better on my night tows coming back from the lake, as I can spot Deer & other game Much sooner & better, so it's not as white knuckle a drive, so bet he'll Appreciate the effort.

Did the new fog lights come with lamps, some don't, or don't have them installed.
If no joy there, here is a wiring link you can use to trace where your loosing power, or ground connection. Search Wiring Diagrams
Let us know what you find.

I hate to say this but you might have to pay the $tealership to enable the fog lights for you. Does the relay click when you activate the switch? If so then you may just be forgetting to plug a fuse into whatever slot it's needed in the power panel, but if not you're probably looking at taking it to Ford.

Newer vehicles are pretty much rolling computer boxes. Even if you add all the parts it didn't come with, sometimes you still have to take it in to have the feature enabled in whatever module controls it.

Make no mistake, this is deliberate, so that the $tealership can get paid for the simple act of setting a bit to 1 or 0 to turn on/off the option.

So I've been working on this problem and I have figured it out. The critical step is taking FORScan and reprogramming the GEM/SJB module so that the truck thinks it was built with fog lamps. I changed the following variable

726-01-1 5200 0000 0081

to

726-01-1 5600 0000 0085.

Once I did that the factory switch for fog lights turned on the indicator on the dash came on and the relay I rigged up on the brown fog light control wire in the SJB started clicking in the engine bay. I'm still waiting on the bulb housings so I haven't technically completed the install but I will soon and I will make a thread with a detailed description of how I installed them.
