Wiring Harness

I did a search on wiring 56 ford f-100 and did not come up with anything. I checked a couple of the build threads, but did not find anything there either. Is there a build thread/s that really gets into installing a new harness in early model F-100's?

Are you looking at repairing what you have or doing a complete rewire? I recently rewired mine using a American Autowire kit. It came with complete instructions, which you can see here.

Complete rewire. Those American Auto wire kits look nice. Seems like they are about the same price as Ron Francis, no? I was hoping to seem some detailed photographs of how members actually ran the wires in different locations, along with some good recommendations for various kits guys have used. I have two of the all black wire kits with the small letters that I have to use on two of my truck, but am looking for a third harness for my third truck. Have three to do, none done yet and short one harness. I seem to keep buying parts but dont get them installed. Easier to buy the parts than to install them, lol.

I have a few pics in my albums...and can post more if you want. I really like the ease of the kit I bought. Didn't have any issues at all.

Once you mount the fuse box everything just falls into place when you start running the wires.

Sounds good Indy. I will check out your build thread, but meanwhile would love to see more pictures of how you routed wires, what you used for mounting harness to firewall, frame, or hid wires. Exit firewall.......all of anything and everything you want to share. It would be nice if we got a good response from other members as well. One thread with just "wiring" and photos. I will add mine to it as I go too.

I replaced the wiring harness on my 54 with a stock looking harness I got from MidFifty. The only tip I can give you , since you are not staying stock, is this: if your old harness is still in place, only remove about a foot or two of the old and then put in the new. Keep working it like that as you work your way around the truck. The obvious place to go through the firewall is at the original place, in front of the driver seat. This worked for me and should also work for a new style harness.

Good luck. It is not as hard as some think if you go step by step.

I have used Rebel , Ron France , Detail Zone , and EZ wire , all are very good every thing is marked , just think and plan what you are doing , If you are using electric wipers , you have to remove the motor wire from the fire wall forward bunch to the under cab bunch , Wires are in bunches , front lights , horn , and electric fan , then you have engine management . then under dash and steering column , then you have rear lights and gas sending unit that will be changed if you have tank behind seat . Much easier than you think

Thanks Abe. The original harness were broken, bent, and burnt wires so I removed and put in a five gallon bucket. Wish I would have thought about what you said before I did that. I will be starting from scratch in all three trucks. Thanks for the advise, do you have any pictures of what you did? In the stock harness you used, were the colors all just like the original?

Thanks DR. Makes sense. I do have electric wipers so I will check the wiring I have before I go thru the wall with that cluster. I put my tank outside, so will make sure that one comes out of the cab cluster to exit under the cab.

Awesome Indy, exactly what I was looking for. Those American Wiring kits look pretty nice. Looks like you have a lot to grow with down the road there. Thats a good thing!

Yes they were the same colors as the original wires. The wires are covered by rubber and then that is covered with the original style cloth insulation.

Indy, those clips look a lot like the original clips!
