Wiring Harness
#32
Hey Schoo, Im looking at diferrent alternatives. On the original stock application, I may run the wires close to original location but change the locations just a little for what I would consider a cosmetic improvement. As far as how the harness is clipped to the inner fenders, I think I would prefer a stainless threaded fitting over the stock plunge type fitting, but I have not found what Im looking for yet. Something that will make the inner fenders water tight. Im considering all the original holes shut on the stock inner fenders and re drilling them once I route the wires and figure out where I want the harness to run. If I find the wiring fasteners I have in mind, I will post up some pictures.

Thanks for sharing Jim, I have two of the EZ harness. Is yours maybe the EZC? My understanding is EZ comes in two options. EZ is all black wires with white lettering. EZC is all different colored wires. Do those nylong ties on the firewall fasten to the firewall or just close the confaluted tubing?

The latest person that worked on our truck purchased and mostly installed the Ron Francis kit. I have been working with it to get things finished up as I go along. I really like the way things are labeled. Each wire has a label on it for what it goes to every few inches, so its hard not to get it wrong. They have had plenty of length to get to the locations they need to be.
The instructions are detailed and understandable. They reference different manufacturers options and wire colors well, so if you have different components in your build you have the options.
I have been using convoluted tubing to route the wiring and keep it neat and clean. It works well and looks nice completed. Here is a picture of the engine bay with the wiring harness.

Jim when I bought my truck it had the EZ wire 12 on it with colored cross link wire. I had to call ez wire today and the lady emailed me the directions for it. The p o or someone installed it and it looks like hell not to mention that I am having problems now with the ignition and in no spark . I think that I will just start over. I know just enough about wiring to be really dangerous. I will listening for them prayers from all of you on this job.

Sorry about your wiring. For me, the wiring was one of the jobs I enjoyed the most. I had carefully laid it out, removed any wires that were not needed OR rededicated the wires for the circuits I have. It was a total re-wire, as my original wire was all clothe covered and disintegrated . If one is careful in the layout and planing process, with care given to the actual installation, the process can be quite nice. Because I did not have an overall schematic, I created an index card for each circuit. It would have the color wire, the stamped designation, It's origin, every connection along the way and to what color wire that was and it's termination. It will be invaluable in the trouble shooting process . I did have to change a few things along the way. the flasher circuits are pre-wired for standard thermal flashers. LED flashers are polarity sensitive. I also added several more flasher circuits for the lights on the fire truck.. If you have any questions of need help, get a hold of me.
