WTB-Front and rear 1948 F3 brake drums

I see some of you folks are doing brake conversions, I am interested in keeping my truck as original and would like to purchase a set of front and rear brake drums as spares.
Thanks

Thanks Bill, do you know what the allowable diameter would be, or the thickness?

You are not suppose to turn the drum much more than original. Chuck from Chucks Truck told me some time ago there is only a very small amount that be machined off.

Rock Auto shows them for the 255 V-8 F3. It has a drawing with dimensions.

Later!

Yesterday I got a call from a friend of mine who is working on a 51 F-2 for a customer. Someone removed and threw away the parking brake parts on the rear backing plates. Also, one of the rear drums is trashed. I'll try to get the owner to join this forum and request the parts himself. From what I understand he is going back stock on the entire driveline.

I could be wrong but I thought that on the '51 and '52 F2 models the parking brake is not on the rear backing plates but is on the transmission output. It is a drum and band setup. The '48 thru '50 used a cable to the rear backing plates similar to the F1 setup with a swivel which connects the left and right side cables with the main cable that goes to the parking brake lever in the cab.

That was the case with the T90 4spd in my F3... pretty cool setup.
(Tranny for sale, btw, with parking brake assembly/lever since I don't need it).

This thread is just reminding me how much "take off" stuff I have that I wish could go to a good home (and help fund the build). Guess it is time for another Craigslist run.

Overboring greater than factory spec is possible as the drum thickness is not the reason for limited oversize as previously assumed.

These brakes are fixed pivot design, so if the bore of the drum is larger than the od of the shoes, only the center of the shoe engages the drum and the edges don't, which reduces braking

Oversized linings can be installed and the shoe "radiused" to the drum bore dimension with a lining grinder.
