Front Drive Shaft removal

Front Drive Shaft removal
I'm new to the 4x4 section, but I'm having trouble getting my fuel pump out of my Diesel Excursion because of the 4-wheel drive shaft being in the way. I am in over my head, but that isn't really all that deep. In other words, I'm challenged when it comes to working on vehicles, but this job seemed to be within my abilities. I just didn't know it would require the 4X4 shaft.
I don't think I need to remove the shaft at both ends. I should be able to get the clearance required to remove the Fuel Pump Housing by either removing the Front U-Joint connection or by making a break at the rear flange.
What would be the easiest of the two? I have the saddle-shaped U-Bolt retainer off, but I can't seem to figure out how to dislodge it. I have the 12mm 12-point socket, but no impact. I do have a breaker bar. I can see where loosening the flange at the rear, it could possibly be very difficult to move the flange off of the mating surface because of lack of movement.
