Any 302 will bolt in there even an EFI version after you strip all that off and put a carb on it.

that is true ...but he will need a block with a mechanical fuel pump....otherwise it will get real expensive in a hurry...

not really , you can get a cheap pusher pump and run some wire
I used one once off an old ford courier when the cam ran flat for a friend, but that was a chevy engine
been there, done that

Couldn't he just swap the timing cover and fuel pump eccentric off his original engine? All he'd be out is some time and a couple gaskets & a seal. Nothing real complicated or expensive.

I have taken a efi 5.0 out of a Lincoln Towncar and put on older alum front engine cap and the fuel pump eccentric and ran a regular mechanical fuel pump on an old F100.
Sometimes vans and cars have different sumps and oil pans, but just like the mechanical fuel pump, nothing you probably can't swap around. I'm not sure the engine is close enough to crossmember to have any oil pan issues though, I'd think any would probably work.

If you want to wake up that 74, get a 5.0 out of a 94-96 pickup or van. That 74 motor was a turd. But don't toss the 74's block, the dirt track guys love them.

Someone I know from elsewhere put an 5.0 HO from a 90's Mustang in his 72 E100, be sure to run the correct distributor drive gear on a roller cam, the cast iron gear on your vans unit will eat the cam, you will need to run the vans oil pickup and oil pan also.

It's the other way round, the steel cam is harder than the cast gear. So the gear will get worn, not the cam.
