2010 heated seat, dealer diagnoses.

Hey guys,

I picked up a 2010 F150 Lariat in great condition a few weeks ago, and I'm having an issue with the drivers side heated seat. When you press the DS seat heater button it lights up for a couple seconds and goes out. The passenger side works fine and the rest of the HVAC system works as well. I've searched the forums and it looks like it's a fairly common problem, with the common solution being to replace the heating elements.

So I took it to the dealer expecting them to replace the seat elements, but the service tech called me and said it's a bad HVAC control module, and its throwing a U2100 code. I asked what needed to be replaced and he gave me part number BL3Z19980X. I searched for that number and foumd that it is the HVAC controls for a truck with cooled seats... mine are only heated. Wrong part number? The dealer wants $450 for the part and another $150 to "program" the new unit. Does that sound right? (Soon they'll need to program air filters and windshield wiper blades. Lol)

I also looked up U2100 and I've found some stuff on airbag controllers but nothing regarding the HVAC controls or heated seats. The dealer also said I can't get a used HVAC control board because it needs to be programmed for my truck and they can't program a used one.

I'm getting the feeling that the dealer is jerking me around but don't know for sure. I don't want to spend $600 and not have the module be the problem.
What do you guys think?

UPDATE:

I did some testing of my own today using this post

Heated seat fault testing and diagnosis - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans

I found that the DS bottom seat element has an open circuit while the back seams to be ok. I used a small bit of wire and bypassed the bottom element and the button lights up and stays on. I didn't leave the heater on for more than 10 seconds but that proved to me that the HVAC module is fine, and that the dealer mis-diagnosed my problem. Urgh

Glad you were able to correctly diagnose it so you didn't waste money replacing a part that is working fine.
