Rear view mirror threads

Does anyone know what the exact size and pitch are for the end of the mirror arm. I want to put an extension on it so it hangs a little lower and the local hardware store didn't have anything with that pitch.

Looks like 3/8"x24 from the pictures.

It seemed to be closer to a 7/16 and is finer than 24 tpi. I just dug out some taps that I have and it looks close to 28 tpi.

You got me curious so I put a thread gage on one that I had lying around and 7/16 X 28 tpi it is.
