finding a trans oil cooler for f700 ?
I have a 1979 f700 that the trans has overheated causing me to get stuck until it cooled down. Luckily, it was close to home so I was able to make it back. The trans fluid is milky so I am thinking the trans oil cooler is leaking and letting engine coolant in. (The truck is automatic) Trying to find parts has been near impossible, as is deciphering the vin.
My vin is N71BVDG9058. The part number on the oil cooler is D2hA AA, serial number on the part is MO30678. Anyone know where I can get parts or if I can swap another newer oil cooler instead without it being an issue? I am really hoping it is just the oil cooler and not the trans itself- after it cooled down it was fine, and when I purged the trans fluid I didn't see any nasty bits in the fluid and it didn't smell burnt. Any help would be appreciated!

FWIW, you do not have an F700. You have an LN700, remember?

N71 = LN700 (gas).
B = 300 1V I-6 Heavy Duty.
V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.
DG9058 = 1979.
That was the reply from NumberDummy.
What transmission do you have? An Allison? What model?
It probably has a cooler to begin with. If it is overheating, adding another cooler isn't the answer. You need to find out why it is now overheating after decades of service as it left the factory.

thanks
Duh , thanks for the vin info(AGAIN...cough) - SO much has happened since I asked that I totally forgot about I had that answered long ago. I will try and see what trans it has- I assumed it was the trans cooler as finding milky pepto colored fluid I figured it was leaking and the extra water in the fluid was causing it to not cool down and overheat- it boiled right out of the the top when it happened.

1972/89 LN600/750 with Transmatic (Allison AT-540 - TRANS code: L).
No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Try NAPA, give them the Allison AT-540 application.
