Newbie in Alaska with a 2000 EX

Just bought a 2000 Limited in Oxford white a couple weeks ago. Picked it up for $3000.00. Has 175.000 miles. So far have had to replace the front end, to include upper and lower ball joints, axel shaft u-joints, shocks, complete brakes to include caliphers, rotors and pads. Replaced OEM auto locking hubs with Warn manual hubs. Drive shaft u-joints, and a rear diff. flush and new cover. Had to replace exhaust system do to age. Have had it to Ford Dealer twice for the Theft system not allowing truck to start. Promblem is fixed. Now onto what still needs to be fixed or replaced. All the locks for the doors do not work. Have checked fuses. Sounds like they want to engage just not enough to close or open. Plan on replacing one door actuator and see how that goes. Also need to replace anything metal that holds the running boards, completely rusted. All and all love the truck, and have enjoyed working on her. I do have a complaint and ask if anyone has a fix. The cupholders in the center console are useless, the dash cupholders are useless. Any solid fixes? Thanks for any replies and enjoy the site..

Welcome to the EX forum and family!
What engine do you have?
We love pictures here, especially of Excursions.
There are upgrades available for both sets of cup holders from later years where they were improved. I'm camping right now with spotty Internet but I'm sure someone will help you out with the part numbers for them soon.

Welcome! There are a few AK owners here. Not sure where you are located in our great state but I have 2 sets of factory EX running boards one set is black and one set is tan. If you want them (they are in good shape) you are welcome to a set just need to pick them up, I'm in South Anchorage.

Hope the new truck treats you well, they are amazing beasts.

Thanks!!!

Damn! That was quick. Thank you to all, for the replies.Let me start with I would love to take the tan running boards off your hands. Live out in the valley, am currently up on the slope. Could have someone comeby and pick them up, let me know. As for pictures will post some as soon as I get home. By then the new rims and tires will be on. Went with Ford OEM black steelies and Cooper ATW's 285x75x16's. My Ex has the 6.8 which so far is acting fairly nice. The truck sat for a year in Kenai as the last owner had moved to the lower 48. Really had not been shown much love while it was on the road. The interior is pretty nice shows wear on the driver seat, everything else is clean. Wife spent two days with a rug shampoer and a bucket, and some leather products. Good as new. Luckly they had replaced spark plugs and coil packs just before letting it sit, and from what I can tell so far did a good job of changing out the plugs. They did use some off the wall platitum brand, but as they say 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'. Will look on ebay for the console parts. Happen to know there is the new dash cupholder in a 2002 Ex sitting out in a junk yard in the valley. It's the center one that bugs me the most. Too short and to wide to hold anything with out it falling out on a bump or turn. That's just from driving it a few times. Work three weeks on and three weeks off up on the Slope. Currently back up on the slope. Last hitch off was spent repairing the frontend and all the little bits I could get to, while waiting for parts to arrive. Also have changed the paddle mirrors out for the towing mirrors, had to wait for the wiring harness to come by mail, and just got it done the night before coming back. Still have to replace rear brakes, flush and change fluids in transmission and front diff. As mentioned before fix the damn door locks. Oh yeah! Have another question. The steering seems real light. If you twitch you are making a lane change. It by know means feels like a 7000lb vehicle is that normal?
Once again thanks for the replies. If you are in Alaska and need some asst. let me know.

Power steering

Once had a 99 Burb than the gear box was failing. When made corrections it would have a lag time time, by the time it corrected you were recorrecting it. With my Ex it is just really light. Anything over 35 and you pretty much have to use two hands. to keep it straight. Frontend was just replaced, aligmnent complete. Just seems odd for such a heavy vehicle.

arond006, welcome from another Alaskan EX owner from the valley and who also works on the slope. Where do you work? As for your loose steering, there are several things that can help that. First, if you have a lot of play in the wheel, you can tighten up the steering box a bit. I just did this a couple of months back and it was the best 10 minutes work I've done in some time. What also really helped mine the most was the new front leaf springs when I upgraded to the X Codes and new tires. You and I did about exactly the same fixes to the Ex's on the front end, I just have the 7.3 and my springs were shot so I replaced those at the same time. There is also an alignment thread on here somewhere that seems to help some folks out. I have not done this, but here is a link to that thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ng-issues.html

I believe this is the part he already HAS, which is too "shallow". The 2002+ is the updated version, which when pulled out the holder part drops down about an inch or two to HOLD the cup better.
