Ts chip questions!

Can any one help. First diesel and it came with this chip. Also has a six position **** and the Po told me the settings. He said the check engine light was on because of it. Will it also cause the od off light to be on? I still have od and it shifts fine. But the off light stays off. Then sometimes it will be off. Never flashes like a code. Any ideas. And can I take the chip off with out putting something back in the hole. I want to see if the lights go off if I remove it. Thanks in advance from a diesel noob

Yes, you can remove the chip. Drivers side foot well, right next to the E-brake is the PCM. (computer)

DISCONNECT BOTH BATTERIES. DO IT. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP. YOU CAN KILL THE PCM.

One 10mm bolt secures the large wiring harness connector through the firewall on the ENGINE side to the PCM.
With a 10mm socket (1/4 is the easiest in this case) loosen that bolt until you can pop the connector off.

Once disconnected, loosen the 8mm (I think) bolts by the E-brake securing the PCM and pull it out. Remove the TS Performance chip and throw it in the nearest garbage can.

Take note of the orientation of the PCM inside the black plastic housing and make sure it goes back in the same way... (you will see what I mean)

The TS chip is not a bad chip. But, if you don't watch those EGT's like a hawk on the higher settings, it will kill your motor in no time.

I roasted my 159K mile 7.3 towing with the TS chip. (complete rebuild, holes burnt through piston #7) Every piston cracked.

Get a trans temp gauge if you have an auto, the 4R100 doesn't like getting hot. Common mod is a larger plate cooler from a 6.0/5R110W, it has 26 rows versus whatever tiny thing the 7.3 came with. There's also a popular valve body mod out there. I would be more worried about getting the truck set up to run well then adding the chip back, or getting a different one.

The Po said he had the trans rebuilt and has a better torque converter and some kind of shift kit or valve body work I'll ask him for sure which.
