LED headlights on XLT trucks?

I was building a 2017 super duty XLT and notice the LED headlights aren't an option. Is that accurate or can you add them to XLT trucks?

That is right. The top end lights are reserved for those who buy the top end trucks. Pay to Play as it might be.

I'm in the same boat about LED's. I'm thinking I'm going this route with LED's or HID's.

Yes it does...especially when GM offers LED DRL and HID lights as standard equipment on their HD trucks starting in 2017 and already in place for 2016 half-tons. (Not as nice or comprehensive as Ford, though)

Hopefully OEM retrofits become available at reasonable cost for those of you that didn't get LED lights.

Well, in thinking I may go that way also, I tried 2 different brands of these plug & play led replacement bulbs (with a built in driver and an external driver). Sorry, to say neither of them worked on my 13 Ford Focus (though they swore they would). I would get the an in dash message and they would shut off after 10 seconds or so. So, I will be waiting to see what is needed for OEM LED'S or wait for an actual aftermarket LED Full Headlight Assembly. Perhaps these will work, I tried Kesun & Opt7.

I think it would be wise to wait six months or so to see what develops in the LED market for these trucks. The OEM are pure handsome. Aftermarket may be great from behind the wheel, the important part, but not as pretty in the long run.

I doubt you will see any aftermarket that looks like oem. Most of them are targeted to the younger crowd to look more sporty or cool. Im like you, i think the oems always look the best.

You guys think it is a plug and play application? I mean can we buy OEM LED headlights and replace?

No, it is not plug and play. It will require the Headlight Assembly & balast (LED driver) and we are still waiting for word if it will need a flash and a new wire assembly.

If they are anything like the f150 leds, you will need the oem lights, and a aftermarket conversion plug and play harness, which is around $350. As far as i know, you dont need a flash for the f150.

I made a visit to the local HID installer in Houston and he said no way he would attemp to install a HID system on my truck due the complexity of the four bulb system. He estimated $750 plus when a HID system becomes available. The lower bulb in the headlight housing is what had him baffled. He is doing some research on the 2017's and will get back with me.
My recommendation is to order the LED's from the factory.

The top bulb is low-beam only; and the bottom bulb is high beam only. When on high beam, the upper low beam bulb remains illuminated...hence "quad beam" headlights.

I want good old round sealed beams, no halogen, no xenon, no LED, just plain dim and yellow sealed beams!

..."LEDs are a SCAM!!!! Some of the claimed benefits of brighter headlights are outright false. Other properties are of some benefit in specialized applications (e.g., aviation), but in our trucks/cars the benefits are so minuscule that they aren't worth the initial/ongoing cost or hassle. It's a benefit that isn't worth the charge. Some folks don't mine spending too much to have the best of something, but you will never receive a gain to compensate the monetary loss."
