HOLY COW..1-1/2 GAL SW SS VERM RED $650!
JUST GOT A QUOTE FROM SHERWIN WILLIAMS..
$650 FOR 1-1/2 GAL. OF SINGLE STAGE VERMILLION RED PAINT WITH REDUCER FOR MY '48 F1 DRIVER
SHOULD I NOT BE SHOCKED?
ARE THERE ANY OTHER OPTIONS? I'M A DIY FIRST TIME AUTO PAINTER AND THOUGHT THAT THE SINGLE STAGE PROCESS MIGHT BE LESS OF A CHALLENGE.
ANY ADVICE OUT THERE?
THANKS

Urethane or acrylic enamel? If a quality paint that's really not a bad price.
I just bought some red basecoat the other day(ppg), it was $280 for a pint. That's like $1300 a gallon.
A few years ago I did a prismatic( color changing) paint job......the base color was $3900 a gallon.
Paint prices are stupid expensive for the good stuff, and the cheap paint is, well, cheap. Depends on what you want as a final result...

Single stage is not generally mixed 1to1. Usually 3 or 4 to 1.
If painting the inside of cab and box also.....it takes a lot of paint. Some reds don't cover too well, and for a novice painter I'd want a little extra just in case.
The cheap enamels are even more watery, requiring almost twice as much paint for the same amount of coverage. At least that's what I have found...

I'm not a pro either but I have been using the Hot Rod Flatz with an HPLV gun and it goes on great. Covers well too.
I used Sherwin Williams on a '49 Jeepster years ago and had lots of problems but that was with a siphon gun.
