temp sending unit

Ok dad's 94 F150 with fuel injected 4.9L he gave me was in a dire need of cooling system replacement and I replaced the radiator, thermostat, cleaned up the thermostat housing, and replaced hoses. This weekend I was planning on flushing the block really good but there is one thing that is holding me up. The temp gauge has been messed up for a very long time from what dad told me and he replaced the sending unit and didn't make a bit of a difference so he thinks the gauge is broke.

I all ready unplugged the wire and turned the key on and didn't move at all. Stayed all the way to the right in H and plugged the wire back in and turned the key on and it does what it always does and reset half way to normal. I have never seen it reset all the way to the left to C. So I went out and bought a aftermaket temp gauge and for the life of me I can't get the sending unit out and it is in a really messed up location where you almost need to break your arm to get to it. lol So I was worried I was going to mess up the sending unit trying to get it out and gave up.

Now I am wondering can I just hook up my electric temp gauge I bought the the factory sending unit or should I just buy one of these

https://www.amazon.com/Docooler-Temp...r+hose+adapter

and hook up to the upper radiator hose or is there a better spot I can plum the sending unit that came with the temp gauge?
