2017 SD trying to get out of using 5th wheel hitch

New truck 2 weeks away. 17 CCSB 6.7 and I don't want to lose what's left of my shortbed (after my auxiliary fuel tank) to a 5th wheel hitch. Looking at the Anderson conversion which will also move the trailer back 8" to help with the shortbed clearance issue to the front of the trailer. Anyone have any insight or experience with this hitch? My goal here is to convert my 5th wheel to Gooseneck style hitch and get out of the 5th wheel hitch altogether. Have heard it puts too much stress on the neck of the 5th wheel and will cause issues. My old SD sold with my Superglide hitch in it. Was a nice hitch but a pain to take out and put in so I left it in all the time which left me without any bed space. Anderson 3139 hitch conversion looks like just the ticket or fabricating one from scratch and just replace the whole pinbox. Any ideas?

Tried the towing forum but didn't get much of a response. Thanks in advance!

Reese Goose Box won't void the warranty on a Lippert frame.

Both look like great products. Thank you. The Goosebox doesn't fix my need for an offset hitch point to solve the clearance issues with a short bed & the other style hitch leaves the hitch in the bed so it takes up much needed space while not using the 5th wheel. The Anderson 3139 looks like it would solve both issues but haven't found anyone who has used this product as of yet.

I have owned and used both of these products. I sent the Anderson back due to chucking issues and the top bolt kept coming loose. I have seen pictures on the net that show the flat part on the pin box caving in due to the stress from the block mounting to the pin box. I changed everything over to the Reese goose neck box and will never turn back. If you didn't order the factory hitch then you have more options, you can purchase a offset ball that will move everything back 4 inches that will give you your clearance fix that is what I did. The factory ford hitch doesn't have the offset option that I used to have nor is anyone going to make one due to the fact the ball uses ball bearings to lock in the ball.

Have used the Andersen for two years now and would not give it up. Has worked perfectly and the company will support you for as long as you own it.

This may be the better option for me I'm thinking rather than the adapter to Gooseneck that everyone is saying will crack the frame. Little worried about the deformity it caused on the one guys pinbox.

I ordered my 17 SD with gooseneck/5th wheel prep and the Gooseneck package. What options am I left with if I go with the traditional 5th wheel hitch that will use the Ford prep?

Also, on your Anderson does it latch in anywhere or just sit on the floor of the truck while attached to the original gooseneck ball?

The Andersen just connects to the gooseneck ball. Takes around a minute.

Had you given any thought to ordering the proper bed for your application?

I'm getting a long bed and seriously considering the Andersen Ultimate Aluminum. It saves 100# and is supposed to ride smoother. With a wimpy 3100# payload on a long-bed 4x4 6.7 platinum ultimate, I need to save every pound that I can.

Took a while but I knew that remark was coming. Don't care for the long bed on my personal truck, have enough of them in the fleet and frankly don't care for the look. To each their own on long vs short bed. My 5th wheel is the only trailer I tow that its an issue with so I'll deal with that on the 1 trailer in order to keep the short bed. Super glide on my previous truck but was a pain to take out. Thinking of trying the Andersen Ultimate after reading the feedback. Thanks again!

I believe in the video of the hitch it has a 9" offset to the rear which can be turned around and reduced by putting on the pinbox the opposite way.
