Ok, under the truck at the plug. My plug only has 4 pins in it, not 8? Any thoughts on how to check this configuration?

Shoot, I don't have an EVTM for your generation of truck. The above is for an OBS. Ford was notoriously consistent about some things, though, so look for two red / light-blue wires.

if you only have 4 wires, it sounds like you have a C6 trans.
jump the two red/light blue wires. if it starts, the NSS is bad or totally out of adjustment. have you tried turning the key to start and running the shifter from park all the way down to first gear?

Update on my problem...was wire tracing the trigger wire back to the drivers side fender well where I found a large grouping of plugs. One plug had the trigger wire going into it and also had wires coming up from the transmission. About 6 out of 10 wires had their insulation gone and they were touching each other. I wiggled the wires and the plug and got a spiratic engine crank. I feel that this is where the problem lies. I need to find a twelve pin rectangular plug, so I can make the repair. Does anyone know where I can get this plug to replace the bad plug or should I just wire splice the ten wires and throw away the bad plug?

Post a pic of the connector. Someone might recognize it and have a spare in their "why the eff am I keeping this?" collection. In the meanwhile, can you tape off the bared insulation, just to see if that helps?

Have located a 12 pin connector at a local electronic store, will be replacing the plug today. Wires are in poor shape

Just a follow-up on my problem, replaced the plug with an aftermarket version did not change the no start condition. Went on to the Nuetral safety switch...and bingo! Problem fixed...thank you to everyone for your inputs.
