Camming a 300-6

I'm looking to cam my 300-6.
I was looking at a COMP Cams 268H (COMP Cams 66-248-4: High Energy 268H Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft Lift: .456" /.456" Duration: 268°/268° RPM Range: 1200-5200 | JEGS), I've heard good things about this cam, but I don't know a whole lot about cams.

I want this truck to be a bit of a sleeper, I can't afford to swap out the motor right now unfortunately, so I'd like to give this motor a bit more pep till I can afford to swap in a 351C. I'm also going to re-gear it (thinking 3.55s or 3.73s) and swap over to a limited slip rather than open diff. I might lower the rear end a bit as well to level it out with the front, still unsure on that.

Anyway, what are y'alls thoughts on that cam? Seem like a good performance cam for the 300? What else would you recommend if not that one?

That cam isn't a lot bigger than the stock cam believe it or not so I don't know if it would be worth the effort. The problem with this motor is the cylinder head and unfortunately there aren't many options for upgrading it.

The cam would help, but as mentioned the 300 really needs head work to breathe well

It wouldn't make it a sleeper, it would be the opposite. That cam will give the exhaust note a slight lope. You'll gain top end, and be completely bored with it in six months or the first day you realize that it's not much faster than it was stock.
I'd forget about it, and put all your money towards your goal of a 351C which is actually worth dumping money into, if you want real power.

Alright, that's kinda what I was thinking, but I wanted the opinion of some people who knew what they were talking about. Guess I'll try and buy a 351C off my buddy and start rebuilding it. Thanks for the help y'all, saved me a lot of time and money

Could always put the bottle on it, and the swap that over to the engine you drop in later.

Or a turbo...ported head turbo 300s are a blast to drive. Turbo is a popular build for 300s, and can be done with junkyard parts and a few doodads for generic tuning.

351C? I would think that the Pacific NW would have almost California like emissions testing requirements. Would you go with a carburetor or some sort of EFI system? Is the truck an automatic or 5 speed? Just wondering out loud what your plans are for this build?
