Long bed or short bed?

This one is perplexing to me as I really would love to have the largest fuel tank but having an 8' bed would be like driving a U-boat around with a crew cab...lol

What were some of the reasons you guys chose the bed size you did?

8' Bed, we needed the extra room for camping stuff, as most of the bed is taken up with my wife's mobility scooter and lift.

8 foot bed unless you have to park it every day. And lots of garages are just too small.

I got the short bed originally, then the more I thought about hauling dirt bikes and that 48 gallon tank I called and switched it to a long box. The short box is easier to park and arguably better looking. They say the long box ride feels smoother. And if you ever actually use it to get something over 6-7 feet long it is pretty nice. It was a hard decision for me.

I regretted my short bed on my 2012, ATV hanging off the bed, things that just wouldn't quite fit.. and supposedly some issues with turning radius of 5th wheels in a short bed? (I have no idea if this is true).

If you can't park a long bed then you need to put your purse down and take a class. Only driven long beds and I currently reside in San Francisco. If I can figure it out here, you can only complain if you live in Manhattan

Oh yeah and the reason I got a long bed, I pull a 42' 5th wheel and wanted the 48 gallon tank, more room and better ride when i am not hauling.

I can't think of any reason for the short bed.

My 99 & 05 F250's were both SB's. Both trucks had enclosed work trailers connected to them most of the time that would hold nearly all of the tools & materials I needed so I didn't have to put much in the beds. By 2009 things worked out to where the trailers weren't needed most of the time (a very welcome loss while traveling Montana's winter highways) and the cargo had to be transferred to the bed of the truck. I usually had to stack stuff so high that I couldn't close the tonneau cover leaving things exposed to the elements and/or prying eyes everywhere I parked.

To solve those problems, I opted for a LB on my 2012 F350 & love it. One of the first things I noticed with the longer wheel base too is that the ride is waaay smoother than my SB's ever were.

1/2 ton sb looks good and parks easier, if hauling enough for 3/4 and above then long bed..

Opinions are like.........we ALL have em but yours is the only one that really matters. My personal trucks are always CCSB purely for the aesthetic appeal. I'm not hauling 8' sheets of plywood often nor do I need the long bed enough to warrant the less than appealing look IMO. I like the 450s' look with the dually longed but prefer short bed when going with SRW. Still tow my gooseneck and my 40' fifth-wheel toy box around with zero problems. I like the added space of the long bed but prefer the look of the short bed. My F550 has a 12' utility bed on it and it's awesome for what it's used for but my personal daily driver just makes more practical sense as a short bed.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I am still undecided however the larger fuel tank is a great thing. I personally don't really haul much in my current truck and the short bed F350 is only a foot longer. It would of course be my daily driver with a commute round trip of 64 miles. I guess I will have to see them side my side and decide from there. I am sure the longer wheelbase would help with ride too, I am just not thrilled about such a long bed. If you could get the largest fuel tank with the shorter bed I wouldn't even consider the 8' bed.

another thing to consider if it fits the budget of course is buying a short bed and replacing the stock fuel tank with a larger after market fuel tank which will be available at some point. Titan and Transfer Flow will both be making replacement tanks for the trucks. this is what I will be doing when I am back in the market for super duty.

This decision is 100% personal needs/preferences.

I chose the short bed because it will do everything I need it to, allows me to get into my parking spot at work, and fits in my garage. If my situation were different I may have chosen to go with the long bed.
