After market block heater

Hey y'all, moved back up to Ohio and when I bought my truck in Texas it didn't have the block heater installed, asked the dealership to put it on with the deal, but they didn't have one there. Does anyone know how hard it is to install one? Also what brand should I go with? Thanks y'all. (On my '16)

Why not go with Ford

Heating Unit | Genuine Ford | BC3Z-6A051-A

Wire | Genuine Ford | BC3Z-6B018-H

2016 ford block heater | eBay

see page 11 for location of block heater. It located above the starter. Should be able to remove plug and install without too much trouble. Do a search for block heater. Someone may have instructions on how to do it.

They aren't too bad. Knock out a suitable "freeze plug" sideways and yank it out with a pair of vise-grips or whatever. Clean mating surfaces thorough. Install block heater. KAT (Canada, go figure) is one brand has been around a long time, I'm sure there are others. I bought the type that is placed inline with the lower radiator hose. Supposedly these don't work as well as the other but I dunno, seemed to work fine to me.

take a look at "hot start" block heaters, they are an inline style heater so you'll have to take out a frost plug but they work great on diesel generators during canadian winters

If you remove a "frost" plug (they are actually casting holes to remove the casting sand after the pour), you will have a major coolant loss. You probably would need to refill the primary cooling system of its 30 quarts.

The primary cooling system holds 30 quarts, 15 quarts of coolant and 15 quarts of purified water.

Installing the Ford block heater, you can possibly install it without a major coolant loss. Probably a loss of less than 1/2 gallon of 50/50 coolant.
