93 4.0L v6 into a 2000 ranger?

So I blew my head gaskets on my 2000 ranger that had a 4.0L V6 in it already and I know someone with a 93 explorer with the 4.0 in it, and was just wondering if anyone knew whether or not the 93 motor would be compatible with my 2000

Is your 2000 and OHV or SOHC?

If it's an OHV, you should be able to swap it in. You must use the intake and exhaust and all electrical, sensor, etc connections from your truck. The computer won't care about the long block, but it will care about the intake and exhaust and sensor readings.

I don't think it wont run correctly and may burn the pistons. The 93 has small dish pistons and large open chamber heads. The 2000 has deep dish pistons and small closed chamber heads. You will have detonation problems running the 93 engine on the 2000 PCM. Also the cams are different. Rebuilding The Ford 4.0L Pushrod V6 - Engine Builder Magazine

Thanks for that update and link. I didn't realize there was so much turmoil in the 4.0 OHV history.

Or You could replace the head gasket's on your current engine..... personally I'd spend the couple hundred dollars to have the heads redone and call it good.
