390 + MC 2100 1.08: too small?

Hi guys

I picked up a junkyard Motorcraft 2100 with "1.08" stamped on the side. This carb is supposed to be going on my 76 f100, which has a 390. Truck is strictly a working/hunting truck, and would rarely see rpm's over 3800. Will this carb work for this application or is it too small?

Too small. That carb was found on 289 engines. I believe mine is a 1.23 2100.

While it is indeed "too small", you might find it works just fine. You will probably stay below 3800 rpm, like it or not!

Yeah, just clean it up and toss it on.

It's obviously not ideal, but there is no reason it shouldn't work.

The thing to look for on junkbox carbs is excessive wear on the butterfly throttle shaft into the carb body, can be a source of vacuum leaks and they won't tune right. Check that this is tight. They can be hogged out and bushings installed if necessary.

It should otherwise work excellent if it's in good shape, it will lose power at the high end or wide open throttle. But on the other hand idle should be very smooth and off idle acceleration (and low end torque) carrying heavy loads will be optimum. Make sure the jets are dialed in to the right size for your application and maybe use a taller spacer.
