Help diagnosing 5R110 issues
Sure would appreciate any help. I've searched high and low on the forums and the Internet and it's hard to figure out what to do. I don't know if there is a "simple" fix like a solenoid or if I'm in for a full rebuild.
I've got a 2003 Excursion 6L. 214,000 miles.
A few months ago I started noticing delayed engagement of drive when shifting from park or reverse. Also harsh engagement into reverse. Neither happens all the time.
In the past few weeks I'm also noticing a shudder when pulling away from a stop. Again random, doesn't always do it. The shudder feels like the car is skipping or stuttering or almost banging.
The transmission seems to works ok after the random initial shudder.
I sure would appreciate any advice.

My experiences with this transmission with a harsh and or delay into gear have been a problem with the PC A line pressure control solenoid, they can stick and cause high or low line pressure. When it sticks on high pressure the engagements are harsh, and when it sticks at low pressure the engagements are delayed.
This video is a 06 5R110W that had the same issues and you can watch the gauge stick at both high and low pressures. You could replace the solenoid to cure the symptom but I have found that the solenoid sticks due to metal contamination and the new solenoid will soon follow suit...
The metal in this transmission and a few others have come from the converter and this metal has also damaged the pump to a point where I had to replace it as well, so you may be looking at a rebuild based on what you may find in the pan.
