Fuel gauge problem

Can somebody help me troubleshoot this thing? I have a 1999 ford f250 super duty 5.4 v8 triton and my gas gauge has never worked (had truck for a little over 3 years) and I am trying to fix this problem I have dropped the tank and fixed the bobber that was detached and reinstalled the tank (didn't work). It does move so i don't think it's a bad gauge (it reads empty when the key is not trunked and goes a little past full when the key is turned. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED! thank you.

If it's been run consistently below 1/4 tank, the unit has to be replaced. It gets too hot without a decent amount of gas. I am NOT a fan of this design. When it was outside the tank, no issue... I had gone through 2 of them in different trucks til I was told. Out here it's about $400 to get it done at a shop. pphhhttttt!!!!! I used the trip miles and 10 mpg to get to fill up time, and seemed to work ok for me til I sold the trucks.

Thanks for the input! Will be using your method until I get the parts.

2008 350 Superduty gas gauge issue

Mine sometimes works has codes and when I looked them up it can be multiple issues. I just remember to fill up often 30$ here and there. When it does work it’s kind of hilarious because it will show me 0 miles to empty on display then slowly increase as I drive up to 220. Been looking at replacing the pump but heard it can also be a issue with wiring. Not sure as unit is over 300$ on rock auto and way more at the parts store where they have no clue about anything ( today called about a u joint for front end passenger side next question from him “is it four wheel drive or two wheel drive”) but I degress. Should I take the time to drop the tank and replace it or say screw it and just keep filling up often? Saw a video where they recommend using chevron plus gas concentrate seems to make it work more often but hasn’t solved the issue. Tech in video said it’s because of the plate that the float drags on that gets dirty from fuel. Great open design that ford didn’t cover I don’t understand but anyhow. The problem is so random, sometimes it will work then shut off truck get gas then start again and yup not working, hit a bump starts working. Any input would be helpful thank you all.
