Is there a "best" oil?
I have a 2016 3.5 ecoboost coming up on the first oil change I've been looking at royal purple filters and oil. Does anyone else use this? Are there really any benefits to this over say Valvoline? I always like to use a really good oil on a vehicle with turbos but my last was a powerstroke so it always got shell.

You're going to get a hundred different answers on this.
Here's a quote from another forum...this guy just traded his '11 EcoBoost truck with 317,000 miles. Here's his maintenance routine:

Conventional oil, and the engine was still going strong. I prefer full synthetic for cold starts, but you don't need anything special to make these engines last a LONG time.

Since my last post, at about 290k, the range sensor went out in the transmission. The computer couldn't detect that it was in park so it wouldn't allow the engine to start. At the Ford dealer it cost me $125 for the part, $300 labor plus fluid. I went ahead and had them replace the original battery at $135. The total came in at $644. The first signifIcant money I've spent on the truck, but it wasn't on the engine.

If someone is gong to the "high end" oils, it only makes sense if htey plan to extend the Oil Change Interval (OCI). Lots of folks take careful analysis of the used oil, and extend with good results.
For me, I would go by the Oil-Life-Monitor to keep my warranty happy, and I would use any easily available oil with the correct API certification and specs. I'm more likely to crash the vehicle than to damage it from using the wrong oil.

My recommendation is to use what ever oil you like but stick with the MC filters and keep all receipts plus document the hell out of your service intervals.
No issues that I know of but we are in a time when the car makers are looking for ways to avoid warranty claims. Don't make it easy for them. Oh, and make sure you use 5W-30 oil in your 3.5L ecoboost.
I was looking at other ecoboost engines on the dealer's lot at my last service and noticed t hat some of the smaller EB's call for 5W-20. Don't confuse these with the 3.5L.

I think im gonna give the amsoil signature synthetic a try i saw a few test charts and results and it seemed to always be the top performer or right at the top. Several reviews also stated its pretty good and last a good while. Its not as cheap as some of the others but that may be a good thing. I haven't been able to locate it in any stores here yet though.

If you really want the answer to your question, go to www.bobistheoilguy.com and be prepared to be overwhelmed on all things oil.
As for me Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 is where I'm at now. Grew up on Valvoline, then moved on to Castol and Mobil 1. Not brand loyal here, just use what is regarded as the best performing off the shelf oil. But, these days, most oil is very good compared to just 10 or 15 years ago. Even Super Tech at Walmart is a good oil. I use synthetic due to the heat here in South Texas. Also my truck may sit for days without being used.

One of my previous employers been in business over 20 years and the mechanic only used cheapo Napa oil to maintain vans that were expected to go 200k ...and they did usually the rest of the van would fall apart requiring replacement not the engine. It's your money if the fancy bottle makes you feel better go for it.
