motor swap

hi,
i have a 77 f-100 with a 300 six and also an 84 e-150 with the same motor. can i swap them? the f series was redesigned in 80 i think so any help would be great before i dig in and try the swap. main thing i guess is do the motor mounts line up. both are standard trans so thinking i should swap all. motor, bell and trans. trans on f-100 locks up and think its just a linkage thing.
thanks for any advice!!! more questions to come as i'm a terrible mech. and i own 3 trucks and a van. a 77 f-100 w/300 six, a 77 f-150 w/460, an 88 f-250 w/351 and also the 84 e-150 w/300 six. glutton for punishment i guess.:

Which are you swapping into which?? The 84 motor into a 77 F100 or the 77F100 motor into the 84E150??

My only thought would be the differences in emissions, MABE some wiring...... BUT THATS IF the motor mounts are the same and they are truly the same motor....

Take a look at your oil pans. If the 77 F100 is a 2wd it will likely have a mid-sump oil pan and pickup and also may have the dipstick in the pan.

If I recall, 4wd trucks and eventually most of the later trucks went to rear-sump pans with the dipstick in the block itself. Depending on which direction you go with the swap you may end up with either 2 dipsticks, or none.

That is all secondhand info I took from the Inline 6 section on here, so may want to do some digging of your own. I'm going to run into the same issue if my 4x4 conversion ever gets off the ground.

swapping the 84 e-150 into the 77 f-100. motor in f-100 leaks and burns oil bad. needs a rebuild. guess ill have to take some dimensions from the frames unless someone knows if the two different years will line up. thanks for you're reply's kwe45919 and twofifty. btw damn nice looking trucks
