OIL

I just bought a 2015 F450 with the 6.7 engine. No books with it. I want to do the first oil change but need to know what weight and brand of oil to use. Can somebody please help me! Thanks in advance

I use 15w40 Motorcraft oil but everyone likes other oils, all depends. Do some research, if no manual came with it look up the manual and just do some general research on the truck. If need be, ask a mechanic friend what he recommends.

5W40 is the severe duty recommendation. I can't some up with a situation where following the severe duty schedule and using a full synthetic oil would be bad for you, other than maybe the pocketbook if you drive a lot. If you drive enough that the cost of an oil change is a material item then I'd hate to think how much you're spending on diesel, and then you'd really benefit from the better oils anyways.

All my local stores have Rotella T6, Delo 400 LE, Mobil Delvac 1 ESP, Mobil 1 TDT, and several other synthetics on the shelf. CJ-4/CI-4 PLUS rating on the bottle is all that maters.

You could also search this forum, has to be 100's of oil threads. Personally I vote for Rotella T6.

Yes, 5w40 Motorcraft or Rotella T6.

I just take it to the dealer to have the oil changed. Its the same price to change the oil in my 6.7 as it is to change the oil in my GT500. around $100 LOL

I thought I would check my owners manual before I speak. It clearly states that synthetic is required if using a bio blended fuel. I don't know about the rest of you, but a couple of times at the pump I didn't see the little sticker saying it was a mix of bio diesel until after I started pumping. I do, and would recommend the use of synthetic 5w40 year round.

Never a bad idea to change your oil yourself. Always a good skill to have.

I used to change my own oil but it's a pain in the *** to take it to auto zone to dump it. I do hate paying someone else to do a job that I can do myself. I also have a good relationship with the parts guy. He gives me deals on parts. No we are not dating.
