drivability updates?

Is there a way to find out if there were ever any PCM updates related to drivability?

Particularly while towing, the transmission shift strategy is abhorrent. it upshifts while accelerating far too early, and while cruising won't unlock the converter unless you are using cruise control. then won't downshift to 2nd until you are nearly to the floor. after a downshift to 2nd it won't upshift to 3rd again until I'm out of the throttle enough to make the vehicle lose speed.

just wondering if Ford ever did a calibration update before I spend the money on a aftermarket tuner.

thanks!

I think the only way to be sure is to go to a dealer have have them check if you have the latest version.

Even if Ford did, unless you are the original owner you would have no way of knowing if it was ever applied or not. I would start by talking to the dealer just to see if there were any updates. After that I would do my own tuning.
