Was there parking lights on the front..

Hey guys. Was there actual parking/marker lights on the front of a 56? Or was it just on the rear?

Or how was it wired when it's only a single filament bulb

Most where single filament and where wired into the park lights. Easy conversion to a dual filament socket so they can be wired for both turn and park. I did this to my 55.

Yes, the 56 model trucks have parking lights on the front, just below the headlights and above the valance of gravel pan. They were single filament bulbs\sockets unless factory turnsignals were ordered as an option. Then double sockets were installed and the parking lights came on when the light switch was pulled out halfway and the brighter filament was used as a turn signal. If the truck came without the turnsignals, when your state required turnsignals then the turnsignals light was usually put on the top of the fender and an after market switch was added to the steering column. Like my 55:

Thanks. I have the clear lenses on mine and I wired them to a battery just to see them and they are bright. I wouldn't turn them on and leave them on as a marker light because they are so bright, like a second set of mini headlights. I am going to go the double filament route

Was it a 12 volt or 6 volt battery? A 12 volt battery may have made them bright. With the double filament socket and bulbs you can get rid of the light on top of the fender.

You can get dual color 1157 LED bulbs. Parking lights are white, turn signal is amber. You will still have to change out your socket.

How do they work? How can it have two colors in one bulb?

On my 55 I have a dealer or factory installed turn signal switch which cancels itself. However as you can see I have the after market lights on my fender. My parking lights have the dual sockets. Why they installed the lights on the fenders, instead of using the parking lights as turnsignals I'll never know. Someday I would like to run a wire to the parking lights and also use them as turn signals.

I got mine at a local auto parts store. Check locally, you might be surprised.
