New to me 96 with dual tanks, one not working

Greetings all. I just brought home a really nice 96 F250 4X4 XLT. Just about everything works except a few. I've never had a rig with two tanks so when I brought home my truck today I put gas in the wrong tank. I filled the front tank with about 40 bucks of fuel, and of course I didn't notice the switch was on the rear tank in the cab. I tried to switch it over but it just died. I assume there's a pump in each tank. The front may be bad. Maybe simply a fuse? I couldn't find one today. I'd really like to get this sorted and use the gas thats just sitting in the front tank.

Thanks

Bob

That is most unfortunate since now the tank is full. Yes there is a pump and sending unit in each tank. Search for one tank inop or similar topic. This issue (and in turn troubleshooting) is covered more often than you would think.

This may sound crud, but trying rapping the gas tank with a rubber mallet or 2x4. That may jar it enough if the windings aren't shot.

I've done it on occasion and it's worked.
