Progress Being Made on my 1949 F1

The plan for this summer was to get the brake lines done before winter so I could get them bled while it is to cold to work outside. I not only got them done and I will be bleeding them next week. I also got the firewall done, master cylinder is mounted, Steering column is in with the drag link rebuilt and installed. I also had the C4 transmission rebuilt and yesterday I finished building a 1965 289, 40 over flat top pistons, 268H comp cam with Roller rockers. The first of November I am taking it to Corbin KY to a friends race engine shop so we can put it on his Dyno machine to start it and brake the cam in and do a test run so we can see what the horsepower is. I am making up for the five years it sit with no work being done and sorry for the big picture.

looking good. I bet you'll be happy with the horsepower and you got a lot of things done. I may have to rebuild my drag link too. Looking forward to seeing some more pics

That is a great looking engine. What work remains after the dyno time?

Well tonyB55, The stock 289 with a four barrel is about 225 from what I have read so that is over twice what the stock flathead has so if I can get a little more I will be happy. I hope maybe 250 but don't know.. FortyNiner I have a lot of work to do. Next will be spray inside the cab and get the front and rear glass in and sound deadener then start the wiring. I also need a driveshaft, tranny shifter, exhaust, radiator, hoses and too much to list but I am making progress. The plan is to get it running so I can pull it in and out of the garage to work on it plus with it running it would make me want to get it where I can drive it soon.

While you may have a pile of work left, don't forget to sit on an overturned bucket in the cab and make engine noises. Practice putting your arm out the window and driving with one hand too.

Funny you said this because I temporary mounted a bucket seat from my 69 F250 that I am going to use and done this already when I mounted the column and brake pedal.

This is one of the seats I am going to use. I temporally mounted it to check the height of the brake pedal and placement of the steering column. It was better then the bucket ideal. I bled the brakes today, painted the radiator support and painted the engine stand I made from scrap metal I had laying around. It will be better then strapping the motor down on a tire in back of the truck for the 300 mile round trip to the engine dyno shop.

After waiting for over a month my friend in Kentucky finally got caught up enough to be able to have time and put my 289 on his dyno machine. He called yesterday morning and I loaded it up and took it to him. He is going to put it on it next week and he will call me to come back up and we will start it then and see how it runs. I will post some pictures and the results either good or bad.
